The Mental Health Association In Forsyth County (MHA)
Triad Mental Health Services
MHA is dedicated to providing mental health support and education for all. We offer an array services to help individuals, families, and the community at large reach their full potential. With our expertise in the field of mental health and commitment to helping others, MHA strives to break through the stigma of mental health and create a healthier life for all.
Short-Term Counseling
The purpose for this program is to:
Serve as a “bridge” to help individuals access services timely and simultaneously help the recipients find and attain longer-term community mental health services; where the benefit of this program fulfills the recipient’s needs at that point in time.
Priority is given to individuals — including children and adolescents — who are uninsured, under-insured, have recently lost their benefits or have other extenuating circumstances.
The MHA contracts with local licensed therapists to provide this service.

BIPOC Community Outreach
Outreach to Members of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Community: MHA provides education, awareness, and outreach to the BIPOC community through education, awareness, and unique events to help remove the stigma of mental illness passed down through generations within the BIPOC community.

In 2025, Forsyth County was identified as one of 17 Counties in NC that either had a high rate of death by suicide by black youth and/or experienced a high volume of 9-8-8 calls by black youth where the population is at least 25% Black or African-American. MHA in Forsyth County is part of a local collaborative, Forsyth Focused, that is working with the State to address this very critical, immediate issue.​​​​​​​​​​​​​
Information and Referral Services
MHA staff provides information and referral services to individuals on various topics such as:
- Mental health disorders
- Community mental health services
- Community support programs
- Substance use disorder services
The MHA provides referrals based on a person’s mental health and/or financial needs.
MHA staff follows up to help provide additional services if needed.

Mental Health Treatment Court
The Forsyth Mental Health Treatment Court is a post-booking, jail diversion program designed to:
Reduce the number of persons with mental illnesses in the criminal justice system
reduce the number of persons with mental illness stigmatized by a criminal conviction
reduce the number of persons with mental illnesses in detention facilities
The MHA serves on the Treatment Team of the Forsyth Mental Health Treatment Court.

Operation
Santa Claus
Operation Santa Claus provides holiday support through goody bags filled with toiletry and personal care items, along with unit gifts, for children and adults receiving mental health treatment in our community.
The program serves individuals in local hospitals and outpatient programs and, in 2025, supported more than 300 children and adults with mental health needs. Year-round donations from community partners and individuals help ensure the holidays are meaningful for those we serve.

MHA Advocacy
The MHA in Forsyth is a tireless advocate on behalf of children, adults and families affected by mental illness and related disorders.
We do this by working with local, area providers and/or other entities through Resource Assistance and Service Coordination.
Our aim is to ensure that ALL are entitled to access to care, programs and services in order to live full and productive lives in our community.
