The Mental Health Association in Forsyth County, Forsyth County Government, Partners Health Management, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System are hosting a “Community Discussion About Suicide” on Thursday, September 21, 5:45 pm in the Media Center at Carver High School, 35456 Carver School Road, Winston-Salem, NC. The event is free and open to the public.
The purpose for this event is to have an open discussion about suicide. Why?
According to a US Surgeon General’s Report on mental health - 90% of persons who die by suicide have a mental health disorder – whether they are in treatment or are not in treatment.
There were 1,448 REPORTED deaths by suicide in North Carolina in 2021. This reflects a 10% increase in the number of reported deaths by suicide from 2004 to 2020.
Twenty-two (22) Counties in North Carolina (out of 100) do not have a licensed psychiatrist.
